Visit East Lothian (VEL) Terms and conditions

This Visit East Lothian App (the "App") is provided by EDINA, The University of Edinburgh ("EDINA"). Use of the App is governed by these terms and conditions (together with the documents referred to on it) ("Terms and Conditions"). Please read them now. By using the App you indicate that you accept the Terms and Conditions and that you agree to abide by them as well as all applicable laws and regulations. If you are not willing to accept these Terms and Conditions you may not use the App. If you breach these Terms and Conditions, we may terminate any applicable licences and/or withdraw your right to use the App (or any part of the App), with immediate effect.


Access to the App is permitted on a temporary basis, and we reserve the right to withdraw or amend the service we provide on the App without notice.


The App and its contents are for general information only and are provided "as is". We make no warranties, representations or undertakings about:

  • any of the content of the App (including, without limitation, as to the quality, accuracy, completeness or fitness for any particular purpose of such content);
  • non-infringement of intellectual property or other violation of rights; or
  • any content of any other third party website referred to or accessed by hypertext link through the App.

We make no guarantees that the App is free from so called computer viruses. It is strongly recommended that you check for such viruses before downloading it or its contents.


Links to third party websites or apps are for your convenience only. Such websites are operated and controlled by third parties and their inclusion does not imply any endorsement or approval by EDINA of the materials on such websites.


EDINA accepts no liability for any claims, penalties, loss or expenses (whether direct, indirect, consequential, incidental or special) arising from or in connection with: the accuracy, reliability, availability, suitability, quality, ownership, non-infringement, operation, merchantability or fitness for purpose of the content of the App; any reliance placed on the content of the App or decisions made on the basis of any of the content of the App; the use or inability to use the App; the downloading of any materials from the App; or any unauthorised access to or alteration to the App. This clause shall not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by the negligence of EDINA, nor any other liability which cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.


The content of the App (including, but not limited to all text and artwork) is protected by copyright and other applicable intellectual property rights. The intellectual property is owned by EDINA or is otherwise licensed from a third party for use by EDINA. Subject to these terms of use, EDINA grants you a royalty-free, non-exclusive, non-sub licensable licence to use, view, download or store the App or any part of the App for private non-commercial purposes.

Prohibited Use

You may only use the App for lawful purposes. You may not use the App:

  • in any way that breaches any applicable local, national or international law or regulation;
  • in any way that is unlawful or fraudulent, or has any unlawful or fraudulent intent purpose or effect

You are not permitted, without our express written permission, to:

  • use, view, download or store the App or any part of the App, for any purpose other than private non-commercial use;
  • reproduce, copy or transmit the App, or any part of the App, in any way, for any other purpose other than private non-commercial use or in any other medium.

All other rights which are not specifically granted are reserved.

EDINA reserves the right to amend or replace the Terms and Conditions at any time. If we make any substantial changes we will notify you of these changes.


The Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the Laws of Scotland and any disputes that may arise will be subject to the jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.
