The cross-search functionality in the VSM Portal Demonstrator is now available in JISC MediaHub, as well as a range of film, sound and still image collections.

The project will follow the JISC project management guidelines for the development of the project plan, effective communication and co-ordinated working between the project team and reporting progress to the JISC and the Project Steering Group, which will meet twice during the project. This co-ordinated working will include close contact with the Review Panel throughout the development of the demonstrator portal. Liaison at many levels, with project partners and the various user and content-providing communities that will need to contribute to a successful demonstrator, will be an important aspect of project management.
As stated in the Introduction, it is envisaged that this media-specific portal could form a key part of the presentation layer in the standards-based technical architecture for the JISC Information Environment. The portal could be an important, trusted single point of discovery for users in Further and Higher Education who require access to resources that are considered by JISC to be both "mature" (still images) and "innovative" (time-based media) in the context of learning, teaching and research. In addition, content providers who permit their materials to be surfaced by the portal should benefit from greater exposure and use of their resources.
The main stakeholders are JISC, EDINA, members of the Further and Higher Education communities who use or will be inspired by tools such as the VSM portal to use time-based media and still images in their learning, teaching and research, and the owners of visual and sound materials who agree to have their content exposed via the VSM portal.
