GeoCrossWalk was replaced by the Unlock service in 2009. Try Unlock Places to search for geographic data, or Unlock Text to extract and locate place-name references in text.

Gazetteer Query Interface

image
This demonstrator provides a graphic user interface to the GeoCrossWalk database. A user can use it to query the GeoCrossWalk database directly to answer such questions as:
  • Where is Aberdour?
  • Find all antiquities within 3 miles of the River Tweed
  • How many settlements in Northumbria contain "le-street" in their name?
  • Find all recreational facilities with 10 miles of the M1
  • List all Unitary Authorities that contain canals
The tool helps to demonstrate the kinds of queries which may be passed between a JISC service and GeoCrossWalk via the GeoCrossWalk middleware - that the user of the ISC service will never see. This demonstrator could though become a useful tool in libraries for those who want a quick geographical query service.
