The following are a list of known problems and frequently asked questions related to the MasterMap Download service. Please read through them and if you still experience a problem or you have a question please contact EDINA using the Contact Us link from any Digimap page.

Delay in receiving email

There may be a delay between your order being displayed as Complete in Your Account and you receiving an email giving details of how to retrieve your data. This can either be due to delays in the mailing system at EDINA or in your email system. The delay should not be longer that 1 hour.

Tar archive

If you use Internet Explorer (IE6 or IE7) and select the Tar archive, gzip compression option for download, the file downloaded will have the extension .tar.tar instead of .tar.gz and uncompress software will not recognize the file. To resolve the problem, manually rename the file to have the extension .tar.gz

Large ITN datasets

Selecting ITN data will result in very large data files being supplied, even if only a small area of data has been requested. This is because the ITN dataset contains non-spatial data that will be supplied regardless of the area selected.

Email address

Changing your email address will not take effect immediately but will occur overnight following your request.

Area of Interest offset

Occasionally, the red Area Of Interest box on the Refine Area tab will appear offset from the cursor in IE. You should Refresh the page or go to a previous page and then go back to the page to resolve the problem.
