Introducing OS MasterMap to Digimap

Latest News

InterpOSe Digimap edition is now available free of charge for academic use

InterpOSe Digimap edition is now available free of charge for academic use, and handles both the Topography and ITN Layers of OS MasterMap for conversion to various file formats, including Shape, TAB, mid/MIF, and DWG/DXF. The InterpOSe Digimap edition can slice OS MasterMap data into tiles, which means that CAD users will benefit from fast drawing speeds while using the full richness of the data set. Also included is the Dotted Eyes produced style file, enabling the rich styling of OS MasterMap data to be fully realised in ArcGIS as well as MapInfo software.

To get the software you will need to register on the Dotted Eyes website http://www.dottedeyes.co.uk/ and then login in and download the software from the downloads page: http://www.dottedeyes.co.uk/download

OS MasterMap data now available

OS MasterMap data was released to all Digimap subscribers on Tuesday 4th September 2007. Data is available through the new MasterMap Download facility (available under Data Download Services). All Land-Line maps throughout Digimap have been replaced with OS MasterMap Topographic Layer maps. Further information will be available elsewhere on this website.

Overview

EDINA has been working to establish a solution for providing Ordnance Survey MasterMap data through the Digimap service. OS MasterMap is a more complex data product and is structurally very different from the Ordnance Survey data currently provided, so delivering it requires considerable investment and development work. EDINA has undertaken an 18 month project to develop a delivery mechanism for OS MasterMap Topographic and Integrated Transport Network (ITN) layers.

The provisional timetable is as follows:

  1. January 2006: Project kick-off and engagement with community regarding user requirements
  2. Autumn 2006: Service development and iterative testing with expert users
  3. Spring 2007: Beta release to all users at early adopter institutions
  4. September 2007: Final release to all users at all institutions

Update - July 2007

As a result of many enquiries about the arrival of OS MasterMap, we have written a "Bluffer's Guide", which we anticipate will answer many of the simple questions we have been asked. There are also two associated documents. If you have questions about OS MasterMap and Digimap, please read all three documents:

Update - March 2007

Seven Early Adopter Institutions gained access to the MasterMap Download facility on 16 January 2007. Access to this test facility will continue until August 2007. At the beginning of September 2007, all institutions will gain access to OS MasterMap data through the same facility. Although OS MasterMap Topographic Layer is a replacement dataset for Land-Line, both OS MasterMap and Land-Line will continue to be available until August 2008, when Land-Line data will be withdrawn completely.

Architecture Poster

A poster describing the system architecture being used to deliver OS MasterMap to Digimap users has been produced.
