EVENT DESCRIPTION

The Digimap Service from EDINA delivers maps and digital map data of Great Britain to UK Further and Higher Education. There are four different data collections within the service; Digimap’s Ordnance Survey Collection, Geology Digimap, Historic Digimap and Marine Digimap.

This course will focus on Digimap’s Ordnance Survey Collection but the skills covered are transferable to other Digimap Collections.

You will have the opportunity to gain practical experience of making maps, as well as learning which mapping products make up the Ordnance Survey Collection. As well as an overview of data download services and the data download process, participants will gain an awareness of digital map data formats and data conversion issues. The copyright and terms of use for maps and data will be covered.

  • Discuss access, subscription and support issues

RELEVANCE

The event will be of relevance to support and teaching staff involved in supporting staff and learners with digital mapping and the use of digital map data. Alternatively, staff who wish to explore the potential relevance of Digimap Collections for their institution are welcome to attend.

  • No existing knowledge or prior use of Digimap Collections is required for participation.

  • Staff from institutions who do not currently subscribe to Digimap Collections are welcome to attend.
