EDINA Awareness Day For Subject Centres:
10 November 2000
EDINA held an awareness day for staff from the Learning and
Teaching Support Network Subject Centres on Friday 10 November, 2000.
The purposes of the day were:

To introduce Subject Centre staff to EDINA services, especially those relevant to their own subject areas;

Provide opportunities to explore EDINA services, including online
Ordnance Survey digital map data available through the EDINA Digimap
service, in hands-on sessions;

Suggest ways in which the services are being, or can be, used in learning and teaching;
-
Give an overview of the projects for which EDINA has recently obtained
funding, to enhance our services for learning and teaching and
contribute to the development of the Distributed National Electronic
Resource (DNER);

Discuss ways in which partnership between EDINA and the Subject Centres can be developed.
The speakers and presentations were as follows:

Peter Burnhill, Director of EDINA, who spoke on the theme of "EDINA and the DNER". Presentation.

John Slater, Head of the Technologies Centre and senior adviser for the
LTSN Generic Centre, gave two presentations. The first was on behalf of
Dr Paul Clark, Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for Learning
and Teaching, who could not be present on the day, owing to travel
difficulties.
- Paul Clark's presentation was on the theme of "The
Potential Contribution of Data Centres to the Learning and Teaching
Community". Presentation.

John Slater's presentation was on the theme of "EDINA and the Learning and Teaching Support Network". Presentation.
