The following are examples of applications for which OS data was used at the Digimap project trial sites. From October 1997 to December 1999, the Digimap Project demonstrator service supported more than 800 individually-registered end users at six sites. The demonstrator service was used across a wide range of academic departments (see list below), and by users across the academic spectrum: staff (48% of users), postgraduates (24%) and undergraduates (28%).
The demonstrator service was replaced by the national Digimap Service in January 2001, and EDINA's continuing evaluation shows that the National Service is supporting the same breadth of subject areas. The National Service's users have a different spread than the demonstrator, reflecting the fact that the National Service has become an embedded part of the academic infrastructure within institutions: staff (29% of users), postgraduates (24%) and undergraduates (47%).
