Land Life Leisure - service changes 2010/11

9 February 2010

EDINA and Aberystwyth University will make changes to the Land Life Leisure service at the end of the present subscription period on 31 July 2010.

The main change is that there will be no further weekly updates to the database from 1 August 2010 - the content will be frozen after the last update in July 2010. However, access to existing content (representing a 20-year archive from 1990-2010) will continue for at least 12 months to August 2011. This notice is to give users of the service ample time to plan for the change.

The user interface will remain the same, and those institutions who subscribe to EDINA CAB Abstracts will also retain the option to cross-search both databases.

Furthermore, the database will become openly accessible with no password, IP check or institutional subscription, thereby making it available to any interested researcher or learner. The document delivery service will no longer be offered.

EDINA and Aberystwyth University will review these arrangements up to 31 July 2010 and if required will make further announcements in due course.

This decision has been taken with regret. However after a recent consultation period, the sustainability of the service - both indexing and hosting - at the current subscription levels cannot be maintained in its current form. Therefore changes were necessary.

We will continue to consider alternative sustainable models for the service, such as a community indexing system, and welcome suggestions.
