Q. What is CAB Abstracts?

A. CAB Abstracts is a bibliographic database compiled by CAB International. It covers the significant research and development literature in the fields of agriculture, forestry, aspects of human health, human nutrition, animal health and the management and conservation of natural resources.

Q. How can I gain access to CAB Abstracts?

A. The subscription period for CAB Abstracts runs from 1st August to 31st July; institutions may subscribe at any time during the period. Quarterly pro-rata adjustments will apply to institutions that subscribe part way through the year. Institutional subscription rates, based on the size and type of institution can be found here: http://edina.ac.uk/cab/access/institutions.shtml. To subscribe, institutions must complete, sign and submit the service licence agreement, which can be downloaded from the above link.

Q. Can my institution still access the CAB Ovid interface via EDINA?

A. No, EDINA no longer offers access to this interface. Please contact support@ovid.com for further assistance.

Q. Is trial access available?

A. Institutional 30-day trials are available to staff members at UK higher and further education institutions. Please contact the EDINA Helpdesk at edina@ed.ac.uk to request a trial, with ‘CAB Abstracts trial' in the subject line of your message.

Q. I am from a subscribing academic institution. Who is my site representative?

A. Information on local site representatives for all EDINA services can be found on our website, at the “local site representative” link: http://edina.ac.uk/support/. Please be aware that you must be using a computer at your academic institution (within its recognised IP range) to use this facility. If you need further assistance determining your local site representative, please contact the Helpdesk at edina@ed.ac.uk

Q. Are usage statistics available for CAB Abstracts?

A. Yes. Usage statistics can be obtained by the site representative or service support colleague within an academic institution. They can complete a web statistics registration by going to - usage statistics. Other subscribers should contact the EDINA helpdesk.

Q. Is full-text of articles available via this service?

A. There are a few full-text articles available within the service, though article abstracts are usually provided for records. Please use references from the service to assist in finding the journals from your library or elsewhere. Reference linking is available within the service, usually via an institution’s OpenURL Resolver e.g. sfx. EDINA offer a free resolver, GetCopy, which can be set up on request.
